Wakasu loaned to Belgium side to boost World Cup chances

Having been on the fringes for some months now, midfielder Mubarak Wakasu has secured a deal with KAS Eupen in Belgium. It is a one year loan deal from his Chinese Super League club Shenzhen FC.

Wakasu has not been seen in action for both club and national team, the Black Stars for quite some time now. His last stint with the Black Stars was during the AFCON 2022 in Cameroon. But the offensive midfielder could not kick a ball due to injury.

He has not featured in Black Stars subsequent games in the World Cup final qualifier against Nigeria as well as the AFCON 2023 qualifiers. He also missed in action when the Black Stars played in a four nation tournament in Japan. For not being active for long, it is not clear whether Coach Otto Addo will consider him in his selection for the Qatar 2022 FIFA World.

But Wakasu believes his move to Belgium top-flight side will give him the best platform to train rigorously to hit back good form ahead of the World Cup.
