Sammy Gyamfi, NDC communicator has jumped to Anas Aremeyaw Anas’ defense rubbishing claims by Kennedy Agyapong that the investigative journalist is “evil†and a “blackmailerâ€.
Commenting on the incessant attacks on the award-winning journalist by the MP for Assin Central on Okay FM Wednesday, he noted that allegations by the NPP firebrand were pure fabrications and had no basis.
He added that the fact that Anas owns multiple properties in the country does not make him a thief, stressing that he earned it justly through his career as a journalist.
“Is Kennedy Agyapong the only person in Ghana permitted to own properties? That is absolutely nonsense.
“Mind you, the guy is an internationally acclaimed investigative journalist who is paid well outside the shores of country. It is a well-known fact that he collaborated with international media giant, BBC for his most recent documentary.
“Even within the country, it is possible, he could be gifted with pieces of lands by people he may have worked for in the past. How would he consider these as criminal?
According to Mr. Gyamfi, the vociferous MP had no case as he claimed Anas is merely doing his job and should under any circumstance be vilified for it.
He argued that all allegations against Anas are baseless challenging the legislator to provide evidence to back claims of tax evasion.
“All Kennedy Agyapong is saying is based on hearsay. His claims that Anas never sat in the classroom during his law course is bogus. Who wrote his exams for him. Did He Ken write it for him? How many times haven’t regular University students skipped lectures and still passed exams. Ignore Kennedy Agyapong and allow Anas Aremeyaw Anas to do his work,†he said.
He however commended Anas for a good work done and demanded that he be allowed to go about his duties without fear to expose the rot in the system.
