The Ghana Rugby Football Union (GRFU) has called on the newly appointed Director General of the National Sports Authority (NSA), Mr. Yaw Ampofo Ankrah, in Accra.

The move signals the start of an exciting collaboration aimed at propelling Ghana rugby union to national prominence.

The GRFU envisions rugby as a powerful tool for youth development, instilling discipline and fostering excellence across all sixteen regions of Ghana.

Led by President Ms. Rafatu Inusah and other key executives, the GRFU delegation congratulated Mr. Ampofo Ankrah on his appointment and expressed gratitude for his presence at the Union’s elections and underscored the GRFU’s dedication to aligning rugby’s growth with Ghana’s broader sporting objectives.

Ms. Inusah also provided an update on the ongoing Ghana Rugby Club Championship (GRCC) Regional 7s, which is taking place in five regions between April 26th and May 10th, 2025, with the National Championship slated for May 17th.

Furthermore, she highlighted the active preparations of both the men’s and women’s national teams for the upcoming Rugby Africa Men’s 7s (June 21-22, 2025 in Mauritius) and the Rugby Africa Women’s 7s (October 2025 in Cape Town), demonstrating Ghana’s growing ambition on the international rugby stage.

“This marks an exciting new chapter for the Ghana Rugby Football Union,” stated President Ms. Rafatu Inusah.

“We are committed to building a movement driven by purpose, unity, and positive impact, both on and off the field.”

Mr. Ampofo Ankrah expressed his enthusiasm for the progress of rugby across Ghana’s regions and affirmed the NSA’s full support for the sport’s development and the creation of innovative sports programs.

“My doors are always open to those who are dedicated to building a better future for Ghana.”

This significant meeting has established a strong foundation for increased cooperation between the GRFU and the NSA, focusing on grassroots development, infrastructure investment, youth empowerment initiatives, job creation, and nationwide rugby union competitions.
