O.K Frimpong historically secures Asante Akyem North MP seat

    By: Bernard Nyankomago Kwasi

Ohene Kwame Frimpong has made history as the first independent candidate to clinch the Asante Akyem North Constituency Member of Parliament seat  since 1992 where Ghana fully adopted democracy.

He chalked the memorable victory beating incumbent Laywer Andy Appiah Kubi of NPP and Chief Kofi Asamoah of NDC in grand style.

The young hard-working man pulled a whooping 26,926 votes as against 8,933 for Andy Appiah Kubi  and 2,469 for Chief Kofi Asamoah.

The massive win was unprecedented in the history of Asante Asante Akyem North parliamentary elections.

In 2016, Layer Andy Appiah Kubi who won the seat for MPP, got 23,251 while NDC's Mary Awusi secured 10,661 votes. The only independent candidate in that race Samuel Anyan-Kusi got 1,653 votes.

Four years later in 2020, Andy Appiah Kubi increased his votes to 25,009. NDC's Alhaji Adams Sulley Yussif made progress in the votes getting 14,123.

This time round independent candidate O.Kwame Frimpong has brushed both NPP and NDC candidates aside to make a memorable triumph.

He has dedicated the famous victory to the good people of Asante Akyem North Constituency.

"This victory belongs my people at Asante Akyem North. They have shown great love to me and I wish to thank them all" was how O.K Frimpong expressed his gratitude after crowning the newly elected MP.

It was on record that the parliamentary elections in Asante Akyem North were won by all NPP candidates for close to two decade's. The late Honourable Kwadwo Baah Wiredu occupied the seat from 1996 till his untimely death on September 24, 2008.

He was succeeded by Lawyer Kwame Anyimadu Antwi from 2008 to 2012. Honourable Kwadwo Baah Agyemang won the seat for another one term (2012 to 2016) before Lawyer Andy Appiah Kubi ascended on the throne from 2016 to 2024.

Ohene Kwame Frimpong has taken over in the recent December 7, 2024 general election. He has promised to deliver the goods for his constituency.
