Ghana Wheelchair Tennis Set to Commemorate International Day for Persons with Disabilities at the Accra Sports Stadium

The Ghana Tennis Federation, Wheelchair Tennis, with support from the International Tennis Federation, will organise a National Wheelchair Tennis Juniors Training Camp.

This event will unite over thirty (30) junior wheelchair tennis players across Ghana at the Accra Sports Stadium Tennis Court on December 3, 2024.

This initiative aligns with the new ITF Wheelchair Tennis Player Pathway, which aims to recruit children with physical disabilities between the ages of 10 and 18 to play wheelchair tennis and develop the skills needed to become professional players in the future.

The ITF Player Pathway Strategy aligns with the Ghana Tennis Federation's Wheelchair Tennis Committee's new policy, which prioritises education in developingjunior wheelchair tennis players.

The event coincides with this year's World Disability Day, providing an opportunity for the Ghana Tennis Federation Wheelchair Tennis to celebrate people with disabilities worldwide. The 2024 theme is "Amplifying the Leadership of People with Disabilities for an Inclusive and Sustainable Future."

This event will introduce wheelchair tennis to new children with disabilities and allow the Ghana Tennis Federation Wheelchair Tennis to compile a database of all junior wheelchair tennis players in Ghana, which will be used to implement targeted interventions and player pathway strategies in 2025.

Ghana Tennis Federation Wheelchair Tennis National Coaches Yahya Macaulay and Philip Plange, along with regional coaches such as Emmanuel Yaw Boateng, will lead the training camp.
