Two Ghanaian wheelchair tennis juniors set to make history in South Africa
Two young wheelchair tennis players from Ghana, Emmanuel Amobire and Henry Adjapong, along with Coach Philip Plange, departed from Kotoka International Airport in Accra today, 19th September 2024, to participate in Ghana’s first ITF Junior Wheelchair Tennis Tournament in Johannesburg, South Africa.
Before the tournament, the duo, both aged 15, will attend the ITF Johan Cryuff Africa Wheelchair Tennis Training Camp from 20th to 22nd September, which includes junior players from ten other African nations.
Following the camp, they will compete in the Ithembelihle ITF Junior International Tournament, set for 23rd to 25th September 2024.
This marks a historic moment for Ghana, as the first Ghanaian wheelchair tennis players to compete in an international ITF event.
The team, backed by the Ghana Tennis Federation (GTF) and the ITF Wheelchair Tennis Department, is determined to make the country proud.
Henry Larbi, National Coordinator of GTF Wheelchair Tennis, expressed gratitude for the support from the GTF board and the Wheelchair Tennis Committee.
