Sacking your children is to deter others from insulting Presidents – GES to parents

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has dismissed five (5) students of Chiana Senior High School (SHS) who were seen last year in a viral video insulting President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

In a letter dated November 29, 2022 and addressed to parents and guardians of the affected students, Dr Eric Nkansah, Director General of the service, explained that the students have been sacked for engaging in “conduct considered very undesirable, and contrary to the acceptable standards of the conduct generally required of any student in the educational system of Ghana.”

The GES stressed that the dismissal is to deter other students from engaging in similar misconduct.

“Management of the Ghana Education Service (GES) has given approval for the of …with immediate effect to serve as a deterrence to other students,” a letter handed over to one of the dismissed students read in part.

The five students received loads of criticism after a video of them insulting the President went viral last year. While many called for their heads to roll, Child Rights International(an NGO) and a few people called on the GES not to victimise them but seek to guide them to reform.
