Wa Serial Killing: Use your office to help deal with alarming serial murders – Wa Naa to Bawumia
The Wa Naa, Fuseini Seidu Pelpuo IV, has appealed to Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia to help deal with the resurgence of serial killing cases recorded in Wa in the Upper West Region.
Following Dr Bawumia’s courtesy visit to the Wa Naa’s palace, as part of his ongoing campaign tour in the country, the chief appealed for increased security, including police presence and logistics like patrol vehicles in the town, to ensure the safety of residents.
The Wa Naa expressed deep concerns over the increased crime rate in the town as well as the alarmingly high recorded cases of serial killings since 2022 that have grappled the town.
“…Your Excellency, permit me at this juncture to address the most pressing issue which refuses to be solved. This particular visit of yours comes at a time where we are grappling with the resurgence of the disturbing trend of serial killings of watchmen in Wa and the recurrence of the tragic events of 2022. We are deeply concerned about the safety and security of our people particularly the vulnerable watchmen who work tirelessly to protect our communities.
“As chairman of the Ghana Police Council, your excellency, we implore you to use your office to enhance the capacity of the Wa and Upper West police command. We urgently need additional men and logistics such as patrol vehicles to effectively address the current security challenges we face. We believe that with your support, we can strengthen the police presence in Wa in the Upper West Region and ensure the safety and wellbeing of our people,” he appealed.
The plea follows the recent murder of a middle-aged driver in the area identified as Richard Opoku.
The deceased was discovered dead with his throat cut at the back of a trailer loaded with thousands of tonnes of salt.
Several security men have been murdered in mysterious circumstances with either their bodies being decapitated or other body organs, including private parts being removed.
The recent killing raises the death toll of the number of victims of serial killings in the municipality to 17 in the last 3 years.
Police are yet to make an arrest for the recent killings.
