We will not entertain any vigilante groups in December Polls – NPP cautions
William Yamoah, the Director of Finance and Administration for the NPP, has assured Ghanaians that there will be no tolerance for vigilante groups in the 2024 elections.
Reiterating the NPP’s commitment to preventing the use of vigilante groups during the elections, Mr. Yamoah stated that the party has full confidence in the security agencies to ensure that there is no space for vigilante groups or individuals inciting election violence.
He made this statement during a media interview in Accra, as reported on Citinewsroom.com, at an event organized by the National Peace Council.
The event aimed to establish a committee to enforce a code of conduct addressing vigilantism and election violence leading up to the December elections.
“We have faith in the institutions of this country, including the police service, the military, and the Ghana armed forces. We do not support any groups acting as vigilantes or security forces. I want to remind you of a recent example,” he said.
Mr. Yamoah suggested that if the police were able to ensure peaceful elections during the NPP’s internal elections, then maintaining peace during the national elections would not be a challenge.
“During our internal elections, we relied on the police for security, and there were no incidents of chaos or violence at any of the polling stations. This should assure you that the NPP trusts in the institutions of this country,” citinewsroom.com quoted him.
