Fraud Victims Call on IGP For Justice
Two victims of suspected fraud have escalated their grievance to the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, after the Tema Community 8 Police developed cold feet on their case.
Mr. Yaw Baffoe and Madam Afia Boadiwaa want the Police Chief to personally intervene to ensure that their defrauder, Peter Aggrey, is brought to justice by the Community 8 Police.
“All we want is for the law to work in this country,” explained Mr. Yaw Baffoe in an interview he granted in Tema.
“We call on the IGP to stamp his feet down and compel the Community 8 Police to ensure that they do their duty in this case.”
It has been two years since Peter Aggrey allegedly defrauded the two victims.
According to the facts of the case, the victims used to play lawn tennis together with the alleged fraudster, who two years ago, asked for a loan from them with a promise to pay back in a matter of weeks. The two are said to have advanced the fraudster the money, however after receiving the cash, he defaulted in paying back and began making excuses.
After all persuasion failed, the victims were compelled to drag him before the Community 8 Police.
Mr. Aggrey is said to have admitted the offense and then had been bailed out by a surety with promise to repay the money back. However, after he was given bail, he went into hiding and has been in hiding for the past two years.
“We have asked the Community 8 Police to put his surety before court to compel him to produce the suspect but the Police has only dragged its feet,” lamented Mr. Yaw Baffoe.
It is out of this frustration that he wants the IGP to intervene so that the Tema Community 8 Police will do the needful.
“From the posture of the Community 8 Police, it is clear that they are in a frame of mind to force us to deliberately let the case go cold, which is very unfair because the reason why our taxes pay them is to ensure law enforcement,” he said.
Meanwhile, there are allegations that Mr. Peter Aggrey has been mouthing it to some friends that there is nothing that can happen to him because he has “sorted out” the Police handling the case.
