Maurice Ampaw acted alone; we can’t disrespect you – NPP tells Otumfuo
The Chief Scribe of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Justin Kodua Frimpong, has made it clear that Ghanaian lawyer, Maurice Ampaw has not been appointed as a spokesperson for the party.
Consequently, the NPP has distanced itself from the remarks made by the lawyer during his program on Wontumi TV over the weekend.
Frimpong stated, “The party does not recognize Maurice Ampaw.” This implies that Maurice and the management of Wontumi TV are solely responsible for addressing their broadcast, which has been deemed disrespectful to traditional authorities.
These remarks followed a summon issued to the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the NPP, Bernard Antwi Boasiako, by the Kumasi Traditional Council over an alleged distasteful comment directed at Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, which has angered Asanteman.
Before Antwi Boasiako could honor the summon on January 22, Maurice reportedly took to the TV station and denigrated the traditional rulers over the summon.
The Akwamu Division of the Council expressed dismay when the NPP appeared before the Council without Antwi Boasiako, stating, “Someone by the name Maurice Ampau has disrespected us on Wontumi’s TV station over the summon we issued to him today. He used unprintable words on us.”
Kyeame Kwaku Wusu, a representative of the Council, warned the NPP against allowing anyone to disrespect what they had built over the years.
In issuing a final timeline for Antwi Boasiako to appear before it on Monday, January 29, the Council also demanded the appearance of Maurice Ampaw and the management of Wontumi TV.
The NPP assured that they would compel the Regional Chairman to appear before the Council, emphasizing that further excuses would not be tolerated.
Mr Frimpong stated, “We will dissociate ourselves from any other excuse he gives this time around,” after earlier conveying that Wontumi was sick and receiving treatment in a hospital, making him unable to appear before the Council.
