Akufo-Addo, keep Ghana’s soldiers from potential bloodshed in Niger - Ablakwa urges
Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, Member of Parliament for North Tongu, has urged President Nana Akufo-Addo of Ghana to refrain from deploying Ghanaian soldiers to Niger in light of ECOWAS’ plans to restore constitutional rule in the country following a recent coup.
Ablakwa expressed concerns about the potential consequences of sending soldiers, emphasizing that the crisis in Niger can be resolved without resorting to violence.
Ablakwa noted that it is crucial for Ghana’s soldiers to be kept away from the escalating geopolitical situation in Niger, as it could lead to a bloodbath and destabilize an already volatile region. He also raised concerns about Ghana’s financial limitations that might hinder the provision of necessary equipment and logistics for its soldiers.
The MP criticized President Akufo-Addo for not submitting his Niger policy to Parliament for scrutiny and emphasized that the West African leaders advocating for democracy in Niger should lead by example in their own countries.
Ablakwa stressed that diplomatic solutions and constructive dialogue should be pursued to resolve the crisis in Niger. He pointed out that the recent wave of military coups in Africa highlights deeper issues of bad leadership, corruption, poverty, unemployment, and lack of opportunity that need to be addressed.
He concluded by emphasizing that unless African leaders honestly address the root causes of these issues, more military takeovers might occur on the continent in the future.
