Nyantakyi funded Akufo-Addo’s campaign – Yamoah Ponkoh

Yaw Afrifa Yamoah Ponkoh says he is aware that beleaguered GFA president, Kwesi Nyantakyi was a major financier of President Akufo-Addo during the 2016 electioneering campaign.

According to the veteran football administrator, Kwesi Nyantakyi was an integral part of the NPP’s victory, adding “that is why he is using his name to solicit for bribes from investors”.

Kwesi Nyantakyi is under investigations on the suspicion of defrauding by false pretense after it was revealed in an Anas Aremeyaw Anas’ documentary that he used the president’s name to demand for bribe from potential investors.

Yaw Afrifa Yamoah Ponkoh said these on Abusua FM on Tuesday.

The GFA president is reported to have said in the audio-visual recording that, “I have President Akufo-Addo in my pocket and I can secure any contract, it’s just a matter of paying.

“Ghana is the easiest place to do business. All you have to do is pay the president $5 million and pay the vice president $3 million and we will control this country.”

But Yamoah Ponkoh described the ongoing investigations as a “cover up” as the GFA boss would eventually be freed irrespective of the outcome.

He added: “Kwesi Nyantakyi is a major financier of President Akufo-Addo’s campaign prior to the 2016 election”

“The link is already established, I have read a story of him saying he went through hell under the NDC government.

“I am of the opinion that Nana Akufo-Addo is only trying to be smart as far as Nyantakyi’s defrauding by false pretense charge is concerned”.
