Fast-rising Ghanaian music icon, Gregory Bortey Newman, aka King Promise has expressed disappointment after Ghana failed to receive any nomination at this year’s BET Awards.
In the past, some Ghanaian artistes like Sarkodie, D Black, Stonebwoy and MzVee have all earned their nominations to the Black Entertainment Television Awards “BET†in the Best International Act: African category.
Commenting on the issue the “Selfish†hitmaker said he feels disappointed to see no one out there representing Ghana at this year’s BET Awards.
He was speaking in an interview with Ohemaa Woyeje on Adom FM’s “Work and Happiness†on Tuesday.
“It’s disappointing. We want people to represent us on the international scene and it’s sad we had no nomination,†he told Ohemaa.
“We had lots of hits and it was a very good year so I don’t know why that happened but we just have to work harderâ€, he said.
The BET Awards were established in 2001 by the Black Entertainment Television network to celebrate African Americans and other American minorities in music, acting, sports, and other fields of entertainment over the past year. The awards are presented annually and are broadcast live on BET. The annual presentation ceremony features performances by artists, and some of the awards of more popular interest are presented in a televised ceremony.
