NDC race: Hudu Yahaya enters fray

Credible reports reaching indicate that veteran politician Alhaji Hudu Yahaya would enter the chairmanship race of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC).

Sources say Hudu Yahaya after several consultations with party bigwigs have decided to throw himself in the ring to battle incumbent National Chairman, Kofi Poturphy.

The NDC after 2016 electoral defeat is expected to go for a congress in December to elect new national executive officers.

The party’s constitution stipulates that it must elect national officers and presidential candidate respectively two years before general election when in opposition.

“Hudu Yahaya is the perfect man to lead the NDC. We saw how poorly the party was managed before the 2016 elections. The party virtually surrendered power to the NPP and we are not going to entertain that anymore,” a close confidant told over the weekend. gathered that Hudu Yahaya would soon organise a press conference to announce his intention.

It however believed that the former General Secretary of the party’s decision to contest for the same position four years ago was thwarted by the Council of Elders of party.

The reason gave at the time was that if he was elected national chairman of the NDC, together with the president and flagbearer would be the two topmost leaders of the party from the same region, something those in opposition to my candidacy saw as being interpreted as a hijack of the party by Northerners

John Dramani Mahama was the party’s presidential candidate in 2016 who also hails from the Northern part of the country.
