Majority of Ghanaians weren’t captured in ‘Pseudo’ SoNA – Dzifa Gomashie

The Member of Parliament (MP) for Ketu South, Abla Dzifa Gomkashie, has described the State of the Nation Address delivered by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo on Wednesday, 30 March 2022, as a “pseudo” version meant to please members of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) and not the entire country.

The Ketu South MP was speaking on the sidelines of the SoNA in Parliament on Wednesday, 30 March 2022.

According to the lawmaker, the entire address by President Akufo-Addo was unrepresentative of the true state of the country.

The Ketu South MP, who bemoaned the silence of President Akufo-Addo on the tidal waves disaster that occurred in her constituency and led to the displacement of thousands of persons, noted that there was no mention of the ongoing Sea Defence Project, in the address.

She said: “We had two disasters in this country, the first one was the tidal waves; His Excellency the President, was silent, absolutely silent on that one. But he mentioned the other one.”

The Ketu South legislator also noted that those affected by the closure of borders across the country were not captured in the President’s address.

She indicated that although Ghana’s borders have been opened, Togo’s borders are still closed, thus, activities of traders around the borders are still on hold.

“His Excellency the president admitted that we’re members of ECOWAS and he’s blessed to be the chairman of that organisation. His Excellency the President, on Sunday, indicated that the Ghanaian side of the border was opened. What he failed to do, was to communicate to us whether his colleague Heads of State were also going to open theirs. As we speak, Togo’s side of the border is still closed”.

“What is the communication, what did he tell us about that, would His Excellency say that he didn’t know about it, I don’t believe that.”

She added: “I believe that this whole pseudo-state of the nation address is a statement that is to please his side of the divide and not to consider the rest of us and that means that the majority of the people who we represent, who I represent, were not considered in this State of the Nation address at all.”
