Kumasi Asante Kotoko will host Burkinabe side RC Kadiogo in the first preliminary round of the 2022/23 CAF Champions League at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium.
The first leg fixture is supposed to take place in between 9th – 11th September, 2022. The return fixture is slated for 16th – 18th September.
The Porcupine Warriors have not been successful in the continent’s flagship competition since 1983 that they won their last Africa silverware.
The last time Kotoko went far in CAF Inter-Club competition was 2019 under Coach C.K Akunnor where Kotoko got to the groug stage of the Confederation Cup. Any attempt from them have proved futile.
But Kotoko is hopeful of a successful trip this time round. The Fabulous Boys have lost key players like Fabio Gama, Mudasiru Salifu and sensational left back Ibrahim Imoro but they found equally good replacement for them.
Kotoko is embarking on a serious pre-season outside the country to give the players adequate space for preparation towards their Africa campaign.
Meanwhile continental masters Accra Hearts of Oak have drawn by at the preliminary stage of the CAF Confederation Cup. The Phobians will meet the winner of the match between AS Douane of Burkina Faso and ASR Bamako of Mali at the round of 16.
Hearts had a terrible trip to Africa last year conceding 10 goals in two away games both on North Africa soil. They will hope to redeem their image this season.
