I’ll contest to lead NDC in 2020 – Mahama submits letter to party

Barring any unforeseen circumstance, former President John Mahama would visit the headquarters of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) to officially declare his intention to contest for the impending presidential primary.

Mr Mahama is expected to present a letter informing the party’s General Secretary, Johnson Aseidu Nketia of his intention to lead the party once again.

The former president is expected to visit the party’s headquarters today to formally declare his intention after which he would address the media, his spokesperson, Madam Joyce Bawah Mogtari said.

As part of his broad consultations, Mr Mahama on Wednesday visited the NDC, former president Jerry John Rawlings to notify him of his decision to secure the nod to lead the party.

Mr Mahama lost heavily to President Akufo-Addo in 2016.

The NDC is expected to go for a national delegates’ conference in December to elect national officers and presidential candidate for the 2020 general elections.

Currently, five party heavyweights have declared their intention to become the standard-bearer of the party, including former president John Mahama, Joshua Alabi, Slyvester Mensah, Ekow Spio-Garbrah and Mr Bagbin.
