Ghana grabs medal in boxing at Commonwealth Games

Ghana is rest assured of a medal in boxing in the ongoing 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham courtesy Abraham Mensah. The young boxer put up a spirited performance at the Batamweight Division to qualify for the Semi-finals at the Commonwealth Games.

Irrespective of whatever happens at the Semi-finals, Abraham Mensah will win a medal at least Bronze to put smiles on the faces of Ghanaians who have been waiting long for medals in Birmingham.

The Ghanaian continent who represented the nation at Birmingham have done their best but it hasn’t been enough to win for Ghana a medal.

All hopes were in athlete Benjamin Azamati who had a great sprint in the just ended Oregon Games. Azamati ran a good time during the heats for the 100 meters. Where it mattered most however, Azamati finished fourth in the grand finale and failed to grab a medal.

But boxer Abraham Mensah has restored hope for Ghanaians with his qualification for the Semi-finals in boxing. He is eager to go beyond the Semi-finals and win for himself and motherland either gold or silver medal.

“I am a happy person because I have achieved my dream of coming to the commonwealth Games in Birmingham. I will fight hard till the last drop of my blood for the ultimate” he said briefly after the all important qualification.
