GHALCA Top 4 in danger

This year’s Ghalca Top 4 competition appears to be in a limbo as Kumasi Asante Kotoko supporters are mounting pressure on their management to boycott it should the organisers insists on playing with six teams.

Kotoko finished first on the 2021/22 league table followed by Medeama, Bechem United and Karela United. Ideally, these four teams are supposed to participate in the Ghalca Top 4 as the name indicates.

But for strange reason, the GFA is pushing for a rather Top 6 competition in order to give the two Accra based teams Great Olympics and Hearts of Oak the opportunity to play.

According to sources, this will give MTN FA Cup winners Hearts the platform to prepare for the upcoming CAF Confederation Cup.

This move has not gone down well with Kotoko fans. They have warned that if their arch-rivals are given any undue advantage to play, Kotoko will step aside.

“I don’t understand what is going on. The competition is Top 4 but why should someone force Top 6 on Ghalca. We are watching what happens. We will never allow our leaders to accept this” National Circles Council (NCC) member Seth Nii Darko posted on Facebook.

The mini tourney used to generate massive attention and interest when it was introduced in the early 2000 by Ghalca. Ghanaians still remember the earlier tournaments titled Coca-Cola Top 4, LG Top 4 and others which brought total thrills to Football loving Ghanaians.
