Former Minister for Youth and Sports Elvis Afriyie Ankrah has suggested the need to cut down the appearance fees and winning bonuses of Black Stars taking into accounts the economic situation of Ghana at the moment.
The apperance fees of the Black Stars players during the Brazil 2014 FIFA World Cup became a big issue under the tutelage of Elvis Afriyie Ankrah and his NDC administration.
Led by captain Asamoah Gyan, the players of the Black Stars demanded $ 100,00 as appearance fees before they even kicked a ball. After the first game against USA in Natal which the Black Stars lost 2-1, the players resolved to boycott the subsequent games should they fail to get what was due them.
This compelled the late President John Evans Attah Mills to send the money via chartered flight to the players. This was after Sulley Muntari has had a serious encounter with Exco member Moses Armah and was sacked from camp alongside KP Boateng.
Elvis Afriyie Ankrah wants Ghana to avoid similar problem and has urged the Sports Ministry to act before the tournament starts in November.
But former Black Stars captain Asamoah Gyan says players of the senior national team deserves huge money for their work done looking at the risk involve.
