Mahama should make Dr. Dorcoo Board Chair of TOR - NDC executives

A group of National Democratic Congress (NDC) executives in the Ashaiman constituency of the Greater Accra region, has made a clarion call on His Excellency President John Dramani Mahama to appoint former Managing Director of the Tema Oil Refinery, Ing. Dr. Alphonse Kwao Dorcoo, as the Board Chairman of the refinery.

In interviews they granted the media at Ashaiman Official Town on Monday, February 10, 2024, the group, led by Convener, Felix Fefeh and spokesperson, Christian Keteku, said Dr. Dorcoo fits perfectly in President Mahama’s national resetting agenda.

“Given our hugely anticipated promise to reset the country, we need the best hands and brains for the job,” said Mr. Felix Fefeh in the first interview.

He continued, “and if we are talking of TOR, there is no better qualified and experienced person to chair its Board than Dr. Alphones Dorcoo.”

According to him, the former Managing Director of TOR, “has the right connections and acumen that is needed to attract the right investment for the revamping of TOR.”

He explained that TOR requires US$120million every month to keep the refinery operational.

“This requires that we have managers who have the proper international exposure and the right connection to attract such huge investments.

“As the Managing Director of TOR, Dr. Dorcoo attracted such investment and ensured that TOR was at least operational. The experience shows that he has what it takes to resurrect TOR which is currently in a coma.”

He encouraged the president to appoint Dr. Dorcoo as Board Chair and task him with the responsibility of resurrecting TOR, “Imagine the huge bragging right that we will command as a party if we resurrect TOR and make it fully functional” he said.

On his part, Mr. Christian Keteku said Dr. Dorcoo has the most relevant qualifications for the job,“Dr. Dorcoo did his Master’s programme in Finance.

He holds a Masters in Finance, and therefore also has deep financial knowledge about the petroleum sector. This combined with his experience as former MD of TOR and you have the best candidate there is to Chair the Board of TOR,” he said.

Meanwhile, the NDC executives also explained that Dr. Dorcoo is in touch with the grassroots and will be accessible if he is appointed as Board Chairman.

“When he was the Managing Director of TOR under President Mills, Dr. Dorcoo helped many NDC grassroot members to get opportunities to work at TOR, and we want suchlike leaders back in office so we will not repeat the mistakes of the past where we neglected the party and paid dearly for it,” he added.

The NDC executives however have praised President John Mahama’s appointments so far saying they are reflective of the expectations of the grassroots.
