Felix Ofosu Kwakye: Obuasi clash investigation to be prompt
Felix Kwakye Ofosu, the spokesperson for President Mahama, has pledged a swift investigation into the recent violent clash in Obuasi.
The incident, which involved illegal miners and military personnel, occurred after the miners allegedly breached the security fence at one of the mining concessions of AngloGold Obuasi Mine.

The confrontation tragically resulted in the deaths of at least eight miners, with several others sustaining various injuries.
Speaking on the AM Show on JoyNews, Mr. Kwakye stated that the investigation into the matter would be conducted within reasonable timeframes.
“I am sure that the security agencies know exactly how much time they need. For me, it would not be appropriate at this stage to pressure them or impose timelines when all the facts are not yet available. I do not anticipate that it will take too long, and we do not expect them to drag this investigation beyond reasonable limits,” he remarked.
He further emphasised that once the reports on the incident are available, prompt action and investigations will follow. “We expect it to be completed within a reasonable time, and once the report is in, we will take action,” he added.
Mr. Kwakye also condemned the use of lethal force by the military, stressing that the government does not condone such actions.
“We hear of killings by security personnel, but unfortunately, there are some in society who believe that instant retribution is justified, based on their own judgment of the offence. However, Ghanaian law does not permit such actions."
"Anyone accused of a crime must go through a proper legal process to determine their guilt or innocence. This is not a government that encourages that kind of extrajudicial action against individuals alleged to have committed a crime,” he stated.
