GPHA security manager grabs three stowaways at Tema Port
A very vigilant security team of the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA) at the Tema Port, led by Security Manager Col. Benjamin Boamah, has busted three Nigerian stow aways who smuggled into the country on a ship.
Through impeccable intelligence, Col. Boamah, working with the GPHA’s Head of Intelligence, Ernest Panful, tracked the movements of the stowaways and when they arrived in Ghana, they alerted the Head of Sea Patrol at the Tema Fishing Harbour, Emmanuel Adjei Adjetey, to arrest them.
Mr. Adjei Adjetey arrested the three stowaways from their hideout – the propellers cabinet at the back of the ship.
Many observers are praising the keen sense of detection, and savvy intelligence manoeuvres that led to the arrest of the three stowaways.
Observers have said that the feat engenders reassurance that Col. Boamah is really safe keep for Ghana at the Tema Port. Upon their arrest, the suspects admitted to stowing away from their country but claimed their intent was to stow away to Europe, and supposedly, thought that the ship was sailing to abroad where they would have sought greener pastures.
The ship on which they were stowing away, according to reports was the Maersk Jabal, which belongs to Maersk, a leading shipping line in the world.
Consequently, Col. Benjamin Boamah and his hardworking security operatives including acting Fishing Harbour Security Manager, George Yeboah and Officer S.K Sarpong, have come up for high praise by well-meaning Ghanaians who say that PSM Boamah has really tightened up the Tema port which used to be so porous that in the past, illegal products have come through that port.
The arrest has also led to many in the public praising the management of GPHA for modernizing its operations at the Tema Port and providing the necessary tools fit for purpose.
The authorities have been urged to continue to bolster the country’s borders by accessorizing the operations of the GPHA patrol team and apparatus with modern tools.
