GFA President calls for increased investment in Football at 30th Ordinary Congress
In a passionate address during the 30th Ordinary Congress at the Ghanaman Soccer Center of Excellence in Prampram, the President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) highlighted the urgent need for increased investment in football. Emphasizing the challenges faced by the sport, he outlined a comprehensive vision for the future of Ghanaian football.
The President in his address acknowledged the difficulties in securing the resources needed to run twenty national teams and appealed for support from various stakeholders. Stressing the importance of football as an integral part of Ghanaian society, he called on government and corporate bodies to view investments in football not just as business transactions but as contributions to social development.
"I want to thank the current partners, including the Ministry of Health, for their support, particularly in providing ambulance for our technical center for medical care for players during crises". He highlighted the crucial role that partnerships with various stakeholders, including government ministries and private companies, play in sustaining the sport.
The President also proposed several initiatives aimed at strengthening football in Ghana. These included a call for dedicated funding for schools and grassroots football, the introduction of football competitions at all school levels, and tax incentives for companies investing in the sport. He stressed the need for a clear policy on tax exemptions for football-related goods and the introduction of financial support grants for football clubs, similar to practices in countries like Spain and Ivory Coast.
Drawing inspiration from the words of Nelson Mandela, the GFA President reiterated that football has the power to unite people and drive social change. He called for collective effort and collaboration to elevate Ghanaian football to new heights. The President’s speech concluded with a rallying cry for all stakeholders to come together and support the growth of football in Ghana, ensuring that the beautiful game continues to thrive and bring joy to millions.
