Acquire work skills before leaving the country – Mahama advises the youth
Former President John Dramani Mahama has urged the youth to acquire work skills before leaving the country.
According to Mahama, having a skill increases one’s chances of finding a job in other countries.
“If young people have completed school and have not found a job yet, they should acquire a skill so they can enter the workforce,” Mahama said.
“There are many people who want to ‘japa’, but if you are ‘japaing’, do so with a skill,” Mahama advised.
He made this statement during a mini durbar at La-Bawaleshie in Accra on July 18, 2024, where John Dumelo was declared the NDC parliamentary candidate for Ayawaso West Wuogon.
Mahama stressed the importance of having a skill, especially in light of the high unemployment in the Ayawaso West Wuogon constituency.
He encouraged young people who have completed Junior High School (JHS) and Senior High School (SHS) but have not pursued higher education to acquire a skill.
He emphasized that having a skill, whether in carpentry, plumbing, welding, or other fields, makes one more competitive in the job market abroad.
Mahama highlighted the National Apprenticeship program, which he plans to implement, as an opportunity for young people to acquire skills.
He encouraged those not in education or employment to take advantage of the program and acquire a skill.
