A Vote for Mahama is Still a Vote for NPP - Ex-NDC Executive

A former executive of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Tema East constituency, Stephen Ashitey Adjei, has observed that his party, the NDC does not actually have a candidate in the upcoming presidential election.

Mr. Ashitey Adjei, who is popularly called Moshake asserts that the upcoming presidential election will be between a dyed-in-the-wool NPP man and a comparatively conservative one.

“The dyed-in-the-wool NPP man here is none other than John Mahama who is supposedly representing the NDC. And so, the upcoming presidential election will be between NPP and NPP,” Mr. Ashitey averred.

He stated that per his analyses Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia actually comes from a family of NDC affiliates, with his late father having served in the government of late former president Rawlings, founder of the NDC; whereas Mr. John Mahama comes from a family that is well known to be pro-NPP.

“But it’s just not the family factor that matters here; in their political careers, John Mahama happens to have his godfather as former President John Agyekum Kufuor, while Bawumia doesn’t really have a godfather,” Moshake claimed.

According to him, because of Mahama’s deep ties to Kufuor, he will only be doing the bid of Kufuor when he is elected President again.

“It’s just like he did when he was first elected president in 2012 and served one term from that year to 2016. It was through Kufuor’s influence that he maltreated former president Jerry John Rawlings and sidelined all Rawlings faithful, including Martin Amidu and Dr. Tony Aidoo,” Moshake wrote.

“All the time that Mahama was president, he was taking advice from Kufuor and it was through those pieces of advice that Mahama estranged the founder and his wife from the party, and made the NDC unpopular with disastrous policies such as cancelation of teacher and nursing trainee allowances.

He alleged that it was also under the instruction of Kufuor that Mahama demoted Dr. Tony Aidoo from heading a policy unit to become an ambassador.

“Kufuor, after jail NDC leading members like Victor Selormey, Dan Abodakpi, George Sipa-Adjah Yankey, Kwame Peprah and Ibrahim Adams, was afraid that if he did not create confusion between Mahama and Rawlings, Rawlings will advise Mahama to jail him and his cronies. That is how he impressed upon Mahama to ignore late Jerry John  Rawlings.”

According to Mr. Ashitey, “John Mahama has still not disentangled himself from Kufuor and so if he becomes president again, all that will be happening is that Kufuor will rule through him.”

Consequently, Moshake said, it does not really matter who wins the presidential election in the December 2024 election because the two winnable candidates are both NPP.

“A vote for Mahama is still a vote for Kufuor and a vote for Bawumia is a vote for the continuation of the Akufo-Addo/Bawumia government,” he said.
