Kissi Agyebeng should’ve resigned a long time ago – Franklin Cudjoe

Founder of Policy Think Tank, IMANI Africa, Franklin Cudjoe has asserted that Kissi Agyebeng should have resigned from the Office of the Special Prosecutor a long time ago.

According to him, the government while appointing him thought he would become an appendage of its praise singers but that has not been the case.

He believes that this is the reason why the President has forwarded a petition asking for his removal to the Chief Justice to ascertain whether there is a prima facie to constitute a committee that will sit on the issue.

Franklin Cudjoe made this known in a post shared via social media.

He said “It appears the expectation of the government was that the OSP will become an appendage of its praise singers. Kissi Agyebeng should have resigned long ago. He still can”.

Former Special Prosecutor, Martin Amidu is said to have petitioned the President of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to remove Kissi Agyebeng.

The petition according to reports was sent to the President on April 30, 2024

Martin Amidu cites procurement breaches in the purchase of vehicles for the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) and abuses involving judges and the administration of justice as part of his reasons for the impeachment of Mr. Agyebeng.

The former Attorney General also cited violations of citizens’ rights through arrests and detentions, violations of the right to information, and improper appointments of personnel to the office.

He indicated that the OSP had breached the Right to Information law when he requested appointment letters and salary details of all OSP staff.

Reports indicate that the President has since May 06, 2024 forwarded this petition to the Chief Justice to be looked into to ascertain whether there is a prima facie case to establish a committee for Kissi Agyebeng’s removal.
