Confusion At Ghana Gas Over Yaw Dabo Stadium Deal
Some senior staff of Ghana National Gas Company have furiously rebelled against a decision by management to fully sponsor the construction of a mini-stadium for Dabo Soccer Academy.
Tension, according to reports, has been building between top management members and senior staff disgruntled about the deal, which would see the struggling state agency, dolling out huge sums of money to execute the project.
The unhappy staff of Ghana Gas say the entire deal, estimated at a whopping three million dollars, is shrouded in secrecy and accuse its promoters of circumventing laid down procedures, to support the comic actor.
The proposed mini-stadium expected to be constructed in the Ashanti Region would include a non-infill artificial grass and shock pads with 3000 seats for spectators.
“There are more qualified football academies in the country that are better placed to benefit from this deal than Dabo Academy.
“If management believes that sponsoring a football academy is the right thing to do at this time, then it must be done diligently.
“Right procedures should be followed,” one of the aggrieved workers told this reporter on strict condonation of anonymity.
Sources say a large group of irate workers reportedly reacted angrily at a recent meeting when the Dabo Academy sponsorship deal was tabled for discussion.
Faced with open rebellion among their own staff, key figures in the company, insist there are better ways to influence the situation than “abrogating the deal completely”.
Chief Executive of Ghana Gas, Ben K.D. Asante, according to reports, is in a fix contemplating on impressing upon the board to abandon the proposed deal.
“I remain firmly convinced that dialogue is the best way to go and everyone, including the board members together on this matter,” a senior staff familiar with the transaction told this reporter.
Founder of Dabo Soccer Academy, Yaw Dabo recently secured 16 plots of land in Yawbarima Krom in the Atwima Mponua District of the Ashanti Region for the construction of the mini-stadium, but work has since stalled due to financial constraints.
The actor recently revealed that the reason of establishing the academy is to support talented footballers who are less privileged.
