Akufo-Addo Will Never Sack Anybody To Please NDC - Tema MCE

The Tema Metropolitan Chief Executive, Hon. Yohane Amarh Ashitey, says he is looking forward to seeing the #OccupyBoG demonstration by the Minority National Democratic Congress (NDC) to end up as a wild goose’ chase.

In an exclusive interview in Tema yesterday, the MCE, who is also the ruling New Patriotic Party’s Parliamentary candidate for Tema East said that the quest to have the Governor of the Bank of Ghana removed will fail like the earlier quest to have the Finance Minister removed from office.

“This is because President Akufo-Addo is a tough resolute leader who will never govern on the terms of anybody, least of all the opposition,” the MCE said.

According to the brilliant MCE, this resoluteness about the president is a virtue that marks Akufo-Addo out among all the presidents who have led Ghana before.

“That is why he refused to sack the Finance Minister in spite of all the pressure from the Minority MPs,” the MCE said.

The MCE’s take comes in the wake of the minority NDC MPs’ #OccupyBoG demonstration by which they are trying to have the President fire the Governor of the Bank of Ghana, Dr. Ernest Addison.

According to the Minority, the Governor has been irresponsible in office, especially, in terms of support for the government during the COVID 19 pandemic. It is their position that the BoG’s decision to advance government loans, was wrong because it overshot the cap on financial assistance that the central Bank can give the government.

And so, on Tuesday October 3, 2023, the Minority MPs marched to the BoG in red to picket under the banner #OccupyBoG. But according to the MCE, the Minority’s action is like a jump to nowhere.

“I will applaud the Minority for taking the time out to exercise, but beyond this, they should forget about getting anything else from the demonstration, least of all, getting President Akufo-Addo to sack the BoG Governor, because the president will not, so long as there is no basis to do that.” Hon. Yohane Amarh Ashitey said.

Meanwhile, the MCE said that the resoluteness of the president is worth commending. “Beyond refusing to govern on the terms of the opposition, the president’s firmness in these matters means that he can be trusted to see through policies and projects.”

According to the MCE, this resoluteness is what has led to the implementation of the various government policies, including free SHS, NABCo, Planting for Foods and Jobs and ‘one village, one dam. “This resoluteness of the president is truly worth celebrating,” the brilliant MCE said.
