Bawumia’s Victory Should Rather Be Held In Kumasi - NPP Activist
he debate as to where Vice President Bawumia’s presumptive victory in the ruling New Patriotic Party upcoming presidential primary should be held, has attracted attention in the Ashanti region.
Debunking earlier propositions by the Tema Metropolitan Chief Executive that the victory rally be held in Tema, and a counter by the Tema East NPP Chairman that it rather should be held in Accra, the new proposal is that it be held away from the national capital.
According to Mr. Kofi Mensah, a delegate of the ruling party, the Bawumia victory rally should rather be held in Kumasi in the Ashanti Region.
“It should be held in the Ashanti region, for a very simple reason: Ashanti Region is the stronghold of the New Patriotic Party (NPP),” Mr. Kofi Mensah wrote in a commentary on social media.
He also specified Kumasi, the capital of Ashanti “because, Kumasi is the melting pot for NPP supporters from various backgrounds.”
Kofi Mensah’s joinder in the debate marks an escalation of the topic that is on a victory that is totally futuristic.
Meanwhile, the proposal for a venue for Dr. Bawumia’s victory rally only implies that his victory in the upcoming presidential primary is a foregone conclusion.
Most people think so, and these include expert pollster, Ben Ephson, who has said that Dr. Bawumia will win by a good margin.
The Vice President’s prospects which were already very bright before campaigning would commence, became even brighter following the decision of Trade Minister, Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen, to step out of the race.
“Ashanti Region is the spiritual home of the NPP; this being the case, it is only proper that whoever will or is leading the party properly touches base here. Using Dr. Bawumia’s victory rally to do so will not be out of place at all,” Mr. Kofi Mensah wrote.
Responding to the argument by the Tema MCE, Hon. Yohane Amarh Ashitey that the Tema Sports stadium is big enough to host Dr. Bawumia’s teeming supporters waiting to celebrate, he pointed out that the Tema stadium is not bigger than the Baba Yara stadium.
“If a venue to host the party is the only issue of concern, then they can trust the Ashanti Region to come up with more than adequate venues,” he wrote, adding,
“The Tema Sports stadium is not bigger than the Baba Yara stadium.”
Similarly, he said that the Accra Sports stadium, which has been proposed by Nene Ofoe Teyechu Agbadiagba for the victory rally, is also not bigger than the Baba Yara Sports stadium in Kumasi.
