Kwesi Nyantakyi quit as FIFA Council Member

The Confederation of African Football will hold an extraordinary Congress to replace former Ghana Football Association president Kwesi Nyantakyi on the FIFA Council on September 30.

The astute lawyer and banker who resigned as president of the Ghana Football Association last week Friday has been slapped with a 90-day ban by Fifa Ethics Committee, which could be extended for an additional 45-day period depending on the outcome of an ongoing investigation following a documentary released by the award-winning investigative journalist, Anas Aremeyaw Anas.

Mr Nyantakyi was captured on videos negotiating a deal with businessmen and accepting a gift of $65,000 to help establish an oil business in his native country.

He is on the FIFA Council by virtue of his position as 1st CAF Vice President- but with the current situation, his position is set to be taken over.

Mr Nyantakyi resigned as the president of the country’s football governing after assuming office in Demeber 2005.
