Black Galaxies face Nigeria in last CHAN hurdle

Having shown great perseverance to kick out Benin, skipper Gladson Awako and his colleagues have Nigeria to play in the final round of their CHAN qualifier.

The Black Galaxies made clear their intention to qualify for the CHAN 2023 with an outstanding performance against the Junior Squirrels of Benin. After a splendid 3-0 win in the the first leg in Cape Coast, the Black Galaxies went all the way to Cotonou to pip Benin 1- 0 to progress to the final round on a 4-0 aggregate.

Coach Annor Walker attributed the win to hard work and dedication. “I am happy about the steady progress the team is making. When we made the selection there were criticism here and there. Some people complained that we have left behind the good players and selected inferior ones.

“Now their work is there for everybody to judge. These are hardworking and dedicated players. They have proven critics wrong. At least we the coaches have been vindicated. I thank anybody who played a key role to this success”

The Black Galaxies will face a tough task in the next round of the qualifier against their West Africa rivals Nigeria. Matches between the two countries, irrespective of where they are played is always a cracker.

Not long ago the Black Stars qualified at the expense of the Super Eagles of Nigeria to the Qatar 2022 FIFA World Cup. That pain is still at the back of the Nigerians and so anywhere they will meet Ghana it will be full of fireworks.

But Coach Annor Walker and his charges are ready to surmount any challenge that will be posed by Nigeria at last hurdle to the Championship of Africa Nations.
