Asamoah Gyan to retire after AFCON 2019

The manager of Black Stars skipper, Samuel Anim Addo has revealed that Asamoah Gyan could hang his boots after the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations.

The former Sunderland forward has been one of the most potent strikers the country has ever had for more than two decades.

“It’s likely he would like to quit football after the AFCON is over,” Samuel Addo told Jeffries Kwabena Sintim-Koree  ‘Chaskele’ on Zylofon Sports.

“It is likely, with these kinds of things he’ll the best man to affirm it, and so I can’t say it on his behalf, but it’s likely. It’s likely, it’s a possibility.

Gyan has represented Ghana at three FIFA World Cups and six Cup of Nations appearances.

The Kayserispor attacker has scored 53 goals for the Black Stars and also holds the record as the most capped Black Stars player with over 100 appearances for the National team.

However, Kwesi Appiah has excluded Asamoah Gyan from his 18 man squad ahead of the AFCON qualifiers against Kenya on September 8 in Nairobi.
